December 15, 2022.- With the aim of strengthening bilateral economic-commercial relations, the third round of negotiations for a Partial Scope Agreement (PAA) between Chile and the Caribbean country concluded today in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

The delegations of both countries were headed by the chief negotiators of the respective parties: Colin Connelly, Ambassador of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Belgium and Sebastián Gómez, General Director of Bilateral Economic Affairs of the Undersecretariat for International Economic Relations (SUBREI).

"The diversification of destination markets is a key challenge for the Undersecretary. Through this agreement, we hope to maintain and promote the exchange of those products that constitute our traditional trade, as well as make the processes associated with this exchange more efficient. This with the aim of stimulating trade in non-traditional products, promoting entrepreneurship and expanding the export basket of both countries," said the SUBREI authority.

During the three days of meetings of this third round of negotiations, the technical groups on Market Access, Rules of Origin, Trade Facilitation, Competition, Legal and Institutional Affairs, Trade Defense and Trade Regulatory Aspects (MSF and OTC) met.

"We are satisfied with the result achieved with each of the groups, and how this paves the way, from now on, in the bilateral affairs of our countries with a successful and mutually beneficial result," concluded Sebastián Gómez.

Within the framework of this third round of negotiations, the SUBREI negotiating team, headed by the Bilateral Director, met with Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago, to continue deepening trade relations between the two countries.

Trinidad and Tobago is part of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), being an important commercial advance to position Chile in the sector, in accordance with SUBREI's strategy of market diversification.

Indeed, Trinidad and Tobago is a relevant destination for our non-traditional exportable offer, since 49.4% of our shipments to this market are shipments other than copper and cellulose, highlighting, among others, MDF wood boards, children's food preparations , sea salt, apple juice, salmon fillets, preparations for the manufacture of beverages, some textiles, raisins, dried plums and cardboard boxes
